        How to Play

Welcome to Siege Chess! This is a strategic board game where your goal is to outlast your opponents by protecting your king and fortress while eliminating everyone else. Here’s how to get started:

        1. Objective: You win the game by eliminating enemy players through checkmate on their king or fortress.
        2. Setup: Each player begins by placing their fortress and king on the board. The fortress is stationary and generates gold, while the king is your most vital piece. After the positions have been set, each player will use their starting gold to place their initial army from the available pieces.
        3. Gold Generation: Your fortress earns 1 gold per turn, but not when it's under threat.
        4. Turns: Players take turns one at a time. On your turn you can either move one of your pieces or use gold to spawn a new piece.
        5. Threats and Checkmate: If your king is in danger you must protect it as per regular chess rules - you cannot spawn pieces if the king is under threat. If your fortress is threatened by three pieces, you must reduce the threat or lose the game - you do not earn gold while the fortress is under threat. If you cannot save your king or fortress, you are checkmate, and eliminated from the game.
        The Pieces

Below is a breakdown of every piece in Siege Chess, including a description of their cost, and how they move and capture:

        • Pawn (Cost: 1 gold): White Pawn Moves one square orthogonally. It can’t move closer to its own fortress. Captures one square diagonally away from the fortress. Gains extra move options in proximity to a general.
        • Soldier (Cost: 2 gold): White Soldier Moves exactly two squares orthogonally. Captures one square diagonally. Gains extra move options in proximity to a general.
        • Archer (Cost: 2 gold): White Archer Moves one square orthogonally. Captures exactly two squares away diagonally. Gains extra move options in proximity to a general.
        • Rogue (Cost: 4 gold): White Rogue Moves one square diagonally. Captures one square orthogonally. Special: Invisible to enemies unless it can be captured or is directly adjacent to an enemy piece.
        • Knight (Cost: 3 gold): White Knight Moves in an "L" shape: two squares in one direction, then one perpendicular. It can jump over pieces and captures by landing on an enemy’s square.
        • Paladin (Cost: 3 gold): White Paladin Moves in an extended "L" shape (three squares, then one perpendicular), jumping over pieces and capturing by landing on an enemy’s square.
        • Bishop (Cost: 3 gold): White Bishop Slides any number of squares diagonally, capturing by landing on an enemy’s square.
        • Wizard (Cost: 4 gold): White Wizard Moves up to three squares diagonally. Captures by landing on a piece. Can jump over obstacles.
        • Rook (Cost: 5 gold): White Rook Slides any number of squares along its row or column, capturing by landing on an enemy’s square.
        • Scout (Cost: 6 gold): White Scout Slides any number of squares along its row or column jumping over obstacles, capturing exactly two squares diagonally.
        • Queen (Cost: 9 gold): White Queen Slides any number of squares in any direction (up, down, left, right, or diagonally), capturing by landing on an enemy’s square.
        • Berserker (Cost: 11 gold): White Berserker Slides like a queen, capturing enemies or mountains. Special: Sacrifices itself on capture; explodes on enemy capture, clearing adjacent pieces (except kings/fortresses).
        • Dragon (Cost: 13 gold): White Dragon Slides up to three squares in any direction (orthogonal or diagonal), capturing by landing on an enemy’s square. Special: Pierce - when capturing, also captures any pieces (friendly or enemy) between its starting and final position.
        • General (Cost: 8 gold): White General Moves up to two squares in any direction, capturing one square away. Special: Allows pawns, soldiers, or archers within two squares of the general to move to anywhere within two squares of the general.
        • Bomber (Cost: 3 gold): White Bomber Moves one square orthogonally, captures by landing on an enemy piece, exploding to clear adjacent pieces (except kings/fortresses).
        • Outpost (Cost: 10 gold): White Outpost Stationary piece that can be spawned by replacing one of your pawns. Extends your spawn area to include a radius of 1 around the outpost. Can still be captured, defend it well.
